Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Operations Manager to oversee and optimise the daily operations of our freight forwarding business. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient movement of goods across international and domestic supply chains, maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements, and delivering exceptional service to clients. Key Responsibilities Operational Management Oversee end-to-end freight forwarding operations (air, sea, and land) Manage import and export processes, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery Monitor shipment tracking, scheduling, and documentation accuracy Resolve operational issues, delays, and escalations efficiently Team Leadership Lead, train, and manage operations staff, coordinators, and support teams Allocate workloads and ensure productivity targets are met Foster a high-performance, customer-focused team culture Client & Stakeholder Management Maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, carriers, and customs brokers Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery Handle key accounts and complex logistics requirements Compliance & Documentation Ensure compliance with customs regulations, MPI requirements, and international trade laws Oversee accurate preparation of shipping documents (BOL, invoices, packing lists, etc.) Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and standards Financial & Cost Control Manage operational budgets and cost efficiencies Negotiate rates with carriers and service providers Monitor profitability of shipments and operational performance Process Improvement Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery Implement systems, automation tools, and best practices Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations Key Requirements Proven experience in freight forwarding or logistics operations (3–5+ years preferred) Strong knowledge of import/export procedures, customs clearance, and international shipping Experience managing teams in a fast-paced logistics environment Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills Strong communication and relationship management abilities Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office systems Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities Desirable Skills Experience with CargoWise or similar freight management systems Knowledge of New Zealand import/export regulations and MPI requirements Commercial awareness and cost management experience What We Offer Competitive salary package Career growth and leadership opportunities Dynamic and fast-paced working environment Supportive and collaborative team culture How to Apply Apply now with your CV and a cover letter outlining your experience in freight forwarding and operations management.
